My Favorite Love Nest - Singita Sasakwa Lodge

February 03, 2012

Who would give a law to lovers? Love is unto itself a higher law. -Boethius, The Consolation of Philosophy, A.D. 524

February is the month of love; an homage to the essence of life, a force so intense that a day was named in its honor.  There are many kinds of love. That of family, friends, and then there is that kind of blinding love that breathes new life into you. I’ve been blessed with an abundance of all forms of love in my life.

With love on the mind, my thoughts turn to the world’s most romantic hideaways; whether your idea of romance includes a gourmet meal for two, arm-in-arm city strolls or soaking in a bath overlooking the Serengeti and bedding down in a private lodge, you’ll find a hotel suite to suit.

So in honor of love and romance, I’ve looked through all my favorite hotels and picked out the most romantic one according to ME! Here’s a hint: I had a farm in Africa…

Those infamous words spoken by the great Meryl Streep in her portrayal of Danish author Baroness Karen von Blixen-Finecke’s movie Out of Africa instantly remind us of the great love she shared with Denys and with 20th century Africa.

Though farm is hardly the word I would use to describe my oasis of choice – Singita Sasakwa Lodge; a place so steeped in history that I can imagine myself sharing tea with Karen from the inside of this Edwardian manor style house with stone walls, deep verandas, high ceilings, stately furniture, silverware and ornamental pieces to complete the picture.

Singita Sasakwa Lodge offers a vastness of space and privacy from which to discover this stunningly beautiful part of the world.

Each cottage has a private infinity-edge pool overlooking an oasis of calm ‘where the land stretches to forever’.

The bedrooms with inviting four-posters are beautifully appointed, displaying typical African influences with touches of wood, leather and grass, alongside crisp linens, imported chandeliers and hand-crafted furniture.

Romantic dinners under the stars, safari trips in some of the most remote parts of the world, taking a dip in your own private pool while gazing over the plains of Africa… This is the Singita Sasakwa, the place where dreams are made.
