Oprah Lifeclass Live From Toronto

April 17, 2012

Dear Oprah,

From the time I was a little girl you have been a part of our family and our lives, motivating and inspiring us all to be the ‘best’ version of ourselves. You have bridged the gap between ignorance and awareness by living your truth with integrity, passion and love. You have enriched our lives in ways you may never know and your teachings have become an integral part in the tapestry of our lives. Your legacy will live on forever.

My beloved mother, who died of Cancer, would always refer to you as “Comare Oprah!” Anytime someone called our home after 4pm, she would kindly inform them that she was in the company of her Comare Oprah. The word ‘Comare’ in Italian means Godmother, and how appropriate, for that is precisely what you have been to the entire world for the past 25 years.

When you bid farewell to the Oprah Winfrey Show to begin YOUR next chapter and pursue your OWN network, I like so many others cried to see the end of such an extraordinary show and experience. And though I was excited for the great things in store, I was sad to know that our daily talks would come to an end.

Just as we thought we had lost our Fairy Comare, you surprised us by announcing that you would be hosting Oprah’s Lifeclass; a live classroom where people from around the globe could participate in a weekly life lesson, and I was so excited to be a part of your classroom. Each week I eagerly anticipated class and would diligently do my homework. Through this experience I learned more about myself and ways in which I could live a more purpose driven life. You inspired me again to be the Best Me Possible.

Then the unthinkable happened, you announced that you were taking your Lifeclass on the road! After years of trying to get on the Oprah Winfrey Show I would finally have a chance to be in your glorious presence and O what an experience this would be. My only wish was that my mother was alive to share in this exciting and life altering moment, but I knew that she would be seated in heaven cheering on her beloved Comare and wishing all her students the best of luck!

Yesterday, OUR wish came true as thousands of eager students from around Canada gathered inside the Toronto Convention Centre to share in the largest Lifeclass ever! The energy was felt everywhere and the excitement palpable! The lessons learned were many and I know that each student will go on to share these lessons with others, as I will share them too.

Who knew then that a little black girl born into poverty in Mississippi to a teenage mother would ‘against all odds’ change not only her destiny, but the lives of millions of people around the world. This could only happen by the grace of God, He who continues to shine His light upon you.

Oprah, on behalf of my late mother, my family, my friends, and the rest of the world – Thank You – for continuing to fight for the greater good of humanity, for believing that we ALL have a greater purpose, and for having the conviction to know that together we CAN make a difference!

You, my dear and loving Oprah, ARE that difference...

Thank you!
